Combining his clinical and philanthropic careers, Dr. Peters is in his twenty-third year as MCF’s President & CEO.
Heading one of the largest community foundations in the country, he is a leading national voice for community philanthropy, advocating and facilitating the dedication of private resources for the public good. During these years, he has served in state and national leadership positions in the field, and written on a broad range of issues.
Prior to joining the Foundation, Dr. Peters had a 24-year career as a county public health official. He served in the San Francisco Department of Public Health from 1974-1990, including eight years as Chief of Staff, and was Director of the Marin County Health & Human Services Department from 1991-1998.
He received his doctorate from the University of Minnesota, and for three years was a Fellow of the National Institutes of Health.
